Terraced Vineyard Cultivation:
Mowing Caterpillar for Managing Row Greening
From the Wachau Riesling terraced vineyard to the southern Styrian location — modern viticulture relies on well-maintained greening. In terraced areas, where tractors and riding mowers must fit or are not allowed at all, the Jack Mulcher takes over.
Why Terraced Vineyard Cultivation Needs Different Mowing Technology
Employee Safety
Occupational safety regulations limit the permissible slope for riding mowers. With the Jack, the operator stands up to 200 m away — eliminating the risk of accidents.
Maintain Greening
Modern viticulture relies on targeted greening mixtures. The Jack with infinitely adjustable cutting height (10–150 mm) mows as short or high as the sowing requires.
Narrow Aisles
With a width of 131 cm, the Jack Mulcher fits through all common stock distances starting from 1.80 m row width — the mulch deck extends up to 95 cm cutting width.
Cover Seasonal Peaks
From May to July, the greening grows explosively. 4,000 m²/h area performance with the Jack means: one hectare in 2.5 hours.
Specific Use Cases
Mowing Middle Aisles
With row widths starting from 1.80 m, the Jack drives centrally through the aisle and mows the greening in one pass. Cuttings remain as green manure — valuable for humus formation.
Cross Strips and Corners
The agility of the chain drive allows for 360° rotations on the spot. Cross strips at the upper and lower vine ends as well as corners around retaining walls and rocks are accessible with the Jack.
Full meadows on fallow land
Where vine areas are temporarily abandoned, the Jack can lay down strong growth and undergrowth — well-prepared soil for later renaturation.
