Jack Schlegel: The remote-controlled flail mower with Y-blades for the toughest areas
Y-blade flail system, 23 HP Briggs & Stratton and chain drive up to 100% incline. For fallow land, scrub, alpine care, and overgrown slopes.
The Jack Schlegel is a remote-controlled flail mower with chain drive, rotating Y-blades, and a 23 HP gasoline engine, designed for the professional maintenance of the most demanding areas. Where the mulcher works cleanly, the Jack Schlegel excels: eagle fern, blackberries, dwarf shrubs, young growth, and dense old growth are its typical areas of application.
Why the Jack Schlegel is the first choice for rough areas
Y-blades for tough vegetation
Rotating Y-blades crush dense vegetation, young growth, and woody plants that sickle and mulching mowers fail to handle.
Extreme slope capability
Robust chain drive with steel insert, low center of gravity, up to 100% incline. Safe even in wet conditions.
3,500 m²/h area performance
Even large fallow areas, alpine meadows, and embankment sections are mechanically maintained in one working day (basis for AMA area funding).
Safe via radio remote control
200 meters range, emergency stop, automatic signal shutdown, chain protection curtain. The operator is not on the slope but at a safe distance.
The flail deck with Y-blade: made for overgrown terrain
The Y-blade system of the Jack Schlegel is the uncompromising answer to the most demanding maintenance tasks. Unlike a mulching deck designed for fine cuts of soft grasses, the rotating Y-blades work with high energy and shred even woody, dense, and uneven vegetation.
The drive features a 23 hp Briggs & Stratton 2-cylinder 4-stroke gasoline engine, designed for continuous operation under load. The innovative hybrid system provides electric start and electrically assisted starting, while the gasoline engine delivers full power during mowing operation. The 12-liter tank allows for long sessions without interruption.
The robust construction, reinforced chain drive, and solid weight give the Jack Schlegel the stability to work in slopes and inclines in a controlled manner. With a height of 85 cm, it is slightly taller than the mulcher, making it significantly better suited for tasks where cutting power matters.

Where the Jack Schlegel is the right choice
The Jack Schlegel is the tool for anything thicker, harder, or more overgrown than a mulch deck could handle.
Alpine farming & pasture maintenance
Suppression of bracken, dwarf shrubs, and young growth to maintain the pasture area. Basis for the AMA area funding.
Fallow land & area recovery
Areas that have not been maintained for a long time and are to be brought back into use.
Vineyard row maintenance
Compact construction width (136 cm) and chain drive for steep vineyard slopes in the southern Styrian wine region.
Forestry & clearing maintenance
Post-care after logging, retention of young growth on forest paths and clearings.
Landfills & recultivation
Robust maintenance of changing vegetation on compacted and partially contaminated soils.
Embankments with old growth
Rail embankments, flood protection embankments, retention basins with multi-year overgrowth.
Practical example: Alpine maintenance in Upper Styria
On a pasture in the upper and western Styrian mountains with a 50–100 % slope, the eagle fern had strongly emerged over several years. Traditional manual work with brush cutters would have taken several days and two to three people.
The Jack Schlegel was brought to the pasture by trailer and operated safely from the pasture path. With an area performance of around 4,000 m²/h, the area could be mechanically maintained in one working day.
Result: Preservation of the pasture area, basis for receiving the AMA area funding and protection of the alpine cultural landscape.
Powerfully through dense growth
The Jack Schlegel is designed for the toughest applications. Thanks to the robust Y-blades, it effortlessly shreds woody growth, blackberries, and dense underbrush.
Ideal for the initial maintenance of overgrown areas that have not been mowed for years.
Safe operation via radio control
The radio remote control keeps the operator out of the danger zone. Stones, branches, and other foreign objects that are stirred up during flailing pose no risk to the operator.
Range up to 200 m, for maximum flexibility and safety in every operation.

Frequently asked questions about the Jack Schlegel
What is the Jack Schlegel?
A remote-controlled flail mower with chain drive and Y-blade flail system. With 23 HP, it handles fallow land, bush growth, and wild slopes up to 100% incline, operated via remote control from up to 200 meters away.
What are the Y-blades designed for?
The rotating Y-blades are designed for hard, dense, and woody vegetation. They reliably crush bracken, blackberries, dwarf shrubs, and young growth that classic sickle or mulching mowers fail to handle.
What is the difference to the Jack Mulcher?
The Jack Schlegel is made for dense, woody, or wild growth (fallow land, alpine pastures, young growth). The Jack Mulcher is designed for regularly maintained areas with a fine cutting pattern. In short: flail for recovery, mulcher for maintenance cutting.
Is the Jack Schlegel suitable for alpine pasture maintenance?
Yes. With 4,000 m²/h area performance, chain drive up to 100% incline, and Y-blades for bracken, it supports the preservation of pasture land and the requirements for AMA area funding.
What slope can the Jack Schlegel handle?
Up to 100%. Even on wet ground, it works safely with the chain drive with steel insert – an important advantage over wheel-driven slope mowers.
Can the Jack Schlegel be used in viticulture?
Yes. With a construction width of 136 cm and chain drive, the Jack Schlegel is suitable for maintaining vine rows even on steep slopes, for example in the southern Styrian wine region.
How safe is the operation?
The Jack Schlegel is operated via radio remote control from up to 200 meters away. Safety features include emergency stop switches, automatic shutdown in case of signal loss, and a chain protection curtain.
Is the Jack Schlegel also available as a mowing service?
Yes. Jack Works offers a complete mowing service including machine, operator, transport, and operating costs. Details at Mowing service.
How heavy is the Jack Schlegel?
530 kg, heavy enough for stability on slopes, light enough for soil-friendly use.
Schlegel or mulcher? Which model fits your area?
The Jack Schlegel is the right choice if there is hard, woody, or heavily overgrown vegetation in the area. For well-maintained meadows, regular slope maintenance, and solar park green spaces with a fine cut, the Jack Mulcher is the more elegant solution.
